First Citizens Sports Foundation Awards 2021

First Citizens Sports Foundation Hall of Fame
Throughout several decades, Trinidad and Tobago’s athletes have provided amazing performances locally and internationally, bringing pride to themselves, their sporting disciplines and their country.
In 1984, the Sports Foundation launched the Trinidad & Tobago Sports Hall of Fame, to honour and celebrate our most distinguished sportsmen and sportswomen. The Foundation maintains the firm belief that the recognition of the performances of these fantastic athletes, who have made a major contribution to the advancement of sport in Trinidad and Tobago, is critical as both a social and cultural boon for the nation.
Criteria for Induction
The public is invited to submit nominations for induction, in addition to nominations received from the National Sporting Organizations. These nominations must be accompanied by supporting documentation of performance or involvement in sport, for consideration. Once the nomination forms have been received, they are reviewed by the Sports Foundation committee, who then create a short list and make their final selections.
Induction into the Sports Hall of Fame may be from the following categories:
- Athletes
- Administrators/Sport Officials
- Coaches/Trainers
- Match/Event Officials
The Foundation reserves the right to not consider the nominee who has acted in such a manner as to bring their sport, team, club or country into disrepute
Successful inductees must have the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago
- Consistently represented Trinidad and Tobago with distinction and excellence in local and international sport
- If an All-Rounder, must have represented Trinidad and Tobago in at least two sport disciplines
- With the exception of Sports Administrators, must have retired from representing Trinidad and Tobago in sport for a period ag at least three years after last representing T&T at a senior level. However, in the case of posthumous inductions, the case of the three-year stipulation is not required and a deceased athlete can be inducted immediately
- Administrators and Coaches can be considered while still in office and must have made significant contributions to the development of sport
- Coaches and Trainers must have worked, and Match/Event Officials must have officiated, over a number of years at international level
Do you know of a highly accomplished sports ambassador whose career has made a lasting contribution to the development of sport in Trinidad and Tobago? We invite you to nominate them for the First Citizens Sports Hall of Fame.
